Why would you fast ?

It is a good question right ?? I mean, why would you fast ? Why deliberately deprive yourself of food for an extended period of time.  Well this is exactly what a friend of mine, Dan the nutritional neuroscientist, suggested we do last week. I must admit to being pretty sceptical, but he promised me i’d be fine. So I agreed to do a bone broth fast. You drink cups of bone broth, or veg broth if you choose and water for 48 hours !!

Here is what happened…

Firstly I did 63 hours !!! I have never done anything like this before so this was all new territory for me. Here is what happened and what i learned…..

* It’s really not as bad as you think it might be, I’m not going to say it was easy, but not as bad as I thought.

* The first 20 hours are the worst, well they were for me.

* Easting and drinking are so habitual and my body seemed to just want to eat a particular times even if I wasn’t hungry.

* Once I got past the first 20 hours or so my habits dropped away and I was just having the broth when I felt I needed it, not as often as I expected and it was more related to low energy as opposed to hunger.

* Your head will mess with you. Mine did. It doesn’t like change so even if your body isn’t hungry or tired. Your head is telling you to eat – just because !

* I exercised on two days and it felt great. Loads of energy. I’m not suggesting you should, this is a personal thing.

* I slept so well !!

* I intend to do this on a regular basis, I feel great.

* Don’t watch Man V Food while you are fasting. Seriously what was I thinking !

* Connection during meditation was heightened hugely.

* I couldn’t have done it without the support of the others in the group that I was doing it with. We all had high and low moments and were there for each other.

* Don’t do this without expert advice. We had and expert in our team. Luckily for us.

* I did experience huge compassion for people anywhere in the world who have to experience this on a daily basis.

*Why would you fast ? I genuinely think it did great things for me, give it a go !

I’m no a fasting or diet expert as you can clearly read above !! Also you can see that I am not the most gifted writer or blogger in the world. What I am really good at is personal life coaching. It is my passion my purpose my heart and my soul. I feel like i have been given a gift and that is the ability to change people’s lives.
